The evolution of the Majoral brand, must be highlighted because of the innovation in their collections, but also for the growth of their business hand in hand with principles of sustainability.
In 2003 Enric Majoral teamed up with his son Roc to create one of the most recognized jewelry brands in Barcelona. MAJORAL creations reflect a strong passion for artisanal making and the beauty of mediterranean nature by creating artistic objects that transform jewelry into elements of self-expression. Being a son of an artisan and alumni of a school of arts, Enric grew as a self-thought jewelry maker. From selling in the streets of Formentera in the 70’s, to creating a brand that has became a recognized leader in ethical gold sourcing in 2020, Enric has seen in his business a significant evolution and growth.
MAJORAL became Spain’s first Fairmined licensed brand in 2013 and then an authorized supplier for their local and national market in 2014. Since then, the brand has been adding a great value for its customers and generating a positive impact for small-scale responsible miners.
THE BRAND’S VALUES AND ETHICAL GOLD SOURCING
MAJORAL’s strong commitment to responsible processes led them to join the ‘Catalan association for the economy of the common good’ in the early 2010’s. Their founders and directors realized that an important factor for positive impact and caring for the welfare of others involves their supply chain and the origin of materials.
In order to make a step forward by using fair precious metals, MAJORAL found in the Fairmined initiative the best way to source gold from responsible origins. Becoming a licensed brand would allow them to make claims about the responsible origin of the gold used in their creations. This was consistent with the values they represent: artisanal making, responsibility, environmental commitment, identity and culture.
SOURCING FAIRMINED GOLD: A PROGRESSIVE AND COMMITTED EFFORT
Through ARM’s Fairmined team, MAJORAL has found the support they needed to decide the best supply chain and the best sourcing model for their business.
As a growing brand, MAJORAL started sourcing and using Fairmined gold in a progressive and selective way. Committed to move away from conventional gold, they source part recycled and part Fairmined certified, deciding what type of gold to use in each collection and the added value that represents. In 2019 Majoral´s gold for production was 75% Fairmined and 25% recycled, having as well a sales growth of 11%.

The positive impact of MAJORAL by sourcing ethical gold through a Fairmined license does not stop there. Alongside with other seven brands from Catalunya, and the non-profit organization Medicus Mundi Mediterrània, the ‘ORIGEN’ collective strives for building a network that raises awareness about ethical sourcing and promotes responsible jewelry through exhibitions, documentation and forums in which the Alliance for responsible mining has also participated.
