The anniversary of Napoleon was commemorated with Fairmined coins

Monnaie de Paris (Mint of Paris), the oldest enterprise in the world, launched two coins made with Fairmined certified gold, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, celebrated on December 2, 2019.

It is a one-ounce 200 euro coin made of pure gold and a quarter ounce 50 euro coin.

THE DESIGN

The design models after the germinal franc (gold franc) used in France in the first decades of the 19th century. This currency had great international recognition and became a reference for many countries, who later based their currency on the franc.

The reverse represents both the Consulate and the first period of the Napoleon Empire and the Grand Army.

The obverse and the reverse of the germinal franc highlight the significant symbols during that period: the Legion of Honor, the bee and the laurel crown.

OTHER FAIRMINED COINS

Monnaie de Paris has also manufactured other coin collections using Fairmined gold to commemorate special dates: the 75th anniversary of D-Day in 2019 and the centenary of World War I, in 2018.

The supplier of the gold for all these coins has been Gold by Gold, a French refining company, which buys Fairmined certified gold from responsible mining organizations in Peru and Colombia.
