The Fairmined initiative gains recognition in South America

Since 2014, more than 120 businesses from 20 countries already have joined the Fairmined Initiative to work with Fairmined Gold and add value to their products. The majority of these companies are located in North America and Europe, but recently increased interest from South America can be perceived.

This is an important indicator of a growing market that is interest in promoting responsible jewelry and increasingly driven to implement sustainability solutions to work with responsible supply chains in the jewelry and luxury industry.

Martalía, a jewellery brand from Quito, Ecuador, joined as a licensee in 2015, and this year, three brands from Colombia have decided to become a part of the Fairmined initiative: Simón Mazuera, Silvia Segura and Eulogia. In addition, Sissai, the first jewelry brand in Peru in obtaining the Fairmined license, hosted an event on August 10th in order to tell their clients and friends the importance of working with sustainable gold and silver from artisanal mining organizations, since Peru is a producer country that has two Fairmined certified mining organizations: AURELSA and SOTRAMI.

Designing is our passion and we feel that we are elevating our work to a much higher level by supporting sustainable development of artisanal mining communities and ensuring environmental protection. This is something that motivates us to move forward in this business, and it is why we are committed to responsible mining as an option to contribute to sustainable development of our country” said in their press release Ximena and Pamela Ceballos, designers and founders of the brand Sissai.
