CONSULT THE FAIRMINED STANDARD COMMITTEE’S TERMS OF REFERENCE

The Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) launches the Terms of Reference for the Fairmined Standard Committee. The members of this committee will be in charge of the development of the third version of the Fairmined Standard for gold from artisanal and small-scale mining, including associated precious metals.

Since the beginning of 2019, ARM has worked towards updating the Standard, with the end goal of guaranteeing its effectiveness according to the sector’s constantly changing needs. They also aim to continue supporting the sustainable development of the artisanal and small-scale mining organizations.

The Terms of Reference of the Committee seek to ensure that the scope and specific functions for the Committee are clearly defined, by incorporating values ​​of transparency, participation, and justice in the processes for its development process.

The Committee will be created by different gold supply chain representatives and experts in the field.

Become part of the Fairmined Standard Committee

If you wish to be part of the Standard Committee, you must send a letter of interest and your personal information (name and last name, current organization, position, email and contact number), addressed to the Alliance for Responsible Mining, to the email standards@minasresponsables.org, before October 30th, 2019.

In addition, the candidate must confirm that they have read the general and specific Terms of Reference and meet the following criteria required for the Fairmined Standard Committee:

  • He/she is part of the Fairmined Certification or has a specific interest, verified experience and ample knowledge about the topics related to Fairmined.
  • Experience with artisanal and/or small-scale gold mining, or the responsible supply of minerals.
  • Support from his/her organization to serve as a volunteer in the Committee.
  • Faculty to be a spokesperson for the interests of the group that he/she represents  by his/her the labor and/or experience.
  • Availability to serve and participate during the entire duration of version 3.0 (approximately from September of 2019 to December of 2020). The Committee will remain for a maximum of 5 years in case of additional revisions.
  • Participation may be remote and participation in online calls may be necessary.
  • Speaks english and/or spanish.
