ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

“Joining the fairmined challenge is for me jumping on a bandwagon that needs to be seen and heard like never before. We need to sound the alerts, wave the flags… anything to get people’s attention and get it now. Our planet is in trouble, small isolated communities below the poverty line are still in trouble. As a rich nation, we need to collectively change our mentality from “what’s in it for me” to “what can I do for others?” . I am convinced that humans will not be able to continue on this planet if this transformation does not occur relatively soon. We need to learn to take only what we need leaving no foot prints but instead we pilage the earth and leave a dump

Having put my energy into building a workshop to teach others how to be a responsible jewellers has delayed my joining in the movement as a full fledged participant. Joining the fairmined challenge is my affirmation that I too am a responsible jewellers and I will say it loudly and clearly accros the waves.”

“When I first thought of these rings, I was thinking they would be interesting wedding bands.

The fact that they are paired by design but with opposite colours of metals for each pair made me think of couples.

The contrasting properties of the metals reminded me of the contrasts in character and the contrasting rolls each person has in a couple.

The mirror image of the colours of the metals reminds me of how, in a relationship, one is reflected in the other by the other’s behaviour, actions and reactions…

how one metal is cast onto the other, surrounding it and filling in gaps made me think about how in a relationship, one takes space and rolls that are different from those of our partner’s, often being complementary.

all of this comes together to create one object, one item… like one relationship.”
