From November 7 to 17, 2024, the Emilie Bliguet Gallery in Barcelona becomes the epicenter of sustainable jewelry with the exhibition “Gemas Responsables. Jewelers and students towards an ethical jewelry”. This unique event brings together established creators and students to reflect on the importance of traceable and responsible materials in the jewelry industry.
Organized by ORIGEN – Gold for Future and la Escuela de Arte La Industrial, the exhibition highlights 20 carefully crafted pieces that integrate gems and metals mined under responsible conditions and with a focus on sustainability. Each creation made with Fairmined certified materials narrates a commitment to transparency in the supply chain and to improve the well-being of the mining communities and all those involved in each phase of the product’s creation.
Among the jewelry exhibited, the professionals of the ORIGEN collective present rings made with gold and silver, combined with sapphires from Madagascar supplied by Wennick-Lefèvre. For their part, students and professors from La Industrial have worked with tourmaline quartz from Brazil and silver from Peru, also incorporating reused materials such as copper and brass.
In addition to their artistic value, the pieces seek to make visible the ethical alternatives available in an industry historically marked by environmental and social exploitation. This collaboration highlights how conscious design can transform the dynamics of production, promoting a positive impact for both people and the planet.
The artists participating in this exhibition: Adriana Díaz H, Adoro mi oro, Teresa Estapé, Roc Majoral, Recién llovido, Marta Joieria Artística, JUiA jewels, ILFO ecojewels y Emilie Bliguet used Fairmined gold and silver to make their creations.
The exhibition is a testament to the potential of responsible artisanal mining, a sector capable of delivering high quality gems while respecting human rights and protecting the environment. For visitors to the gallery, it will be an opportunity to learn about the future of ethical jewelry and admire the talent of those who are building this change.
