In addition to its prominent Fairmined certification, the Chede mine has been working to close the gender gap in mining. Aware of the importance of gender equality, they have implemented policies and practices that promote inclusion and equal opportunities for men and women in their organization.

“The gender gap is a significant indicator to measure equal opportunities between men and women in the labor market. In the case of the Chede mine, the gender gap was -72 in 2018, indicating a higher male recruitment. However, through the implementation of policies and practices focused on gender equality, the organization has managed to close the gender gap by 18%, reducing it to -53.4 today. This is a great step in the search for gender equality in the mining sector and shows that it is possible to work towards a real and effective inclusion of women in this field.” said Kamila Gómez Colmenares, Gender and Human Rights Specialist programs with a focus on human rights
