ETHICAL JEWELS BY BELLONI: ARTISTIC ITALIAN DYNASTY

ETHICAL JEWELS BY BELLONI: ARTISTIC ITALIAN DYNASTY

The new generation of the family, Luisa and Francesco Belloni (grandson) asked themselves about the origin of the  metals in their creations, realizing about the importance of traceability backwards to the mine and its environmental and social impact

When we think of how the Fairmined initiative arrived in Italy, we think of Ethical Jewels by Gioielleria Belloni.
This three generation business started in 1926 by Francesco Belloni and Alfredo Binaghi, two men that transformed their love for precision into their profession. After overcoming the difficulties of WWII, Gioielleria Belloni opened a store in Milan in 1955 with the direction of Francesco’s son Attilio, and since then it has become a remarkable example of family tradition, beautiful creations and care for ethical jewelry. Ethical Jewels by Gioielleria Belloni is a proud Fairmined Licensed Brand since 2014.

With a new century and a new generation of the family taking the lead, Luisa and Francesco Belloni, wondered about the impact of the metals and stones they used in their jewelry. Understanding the great importance of traceability to the mine and its environmental and social impact, they made the decision to evaluate each step of their chain.

15+ years of work with a sustainability mindset.

In the early 2000’s the brand connected with a code of conduct that ensures traceability of Canadian diamonds being mined in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, creating their line of Ethical Diamonds in 2005 and adding that value to their customers.
During their efforts to promote their ethical sourcing of diamonds, consumers demanded other materials such as gold and silver. The great reception of the Ethical Diamonds concept and the demand for more of this in other materials gave Gioielleria Belloni the confidence to pursue more initiatives that could ensure origin and provide transparency to their customers.

REAL IMPACT

The commitment to generate a real and tangible impact is what makes Gioielleria Belloni a true example of ethical sourcing as a jewelry brand, which believes in Fairmined as an initiative connected with the mining communities like no other, and as a reliable certification that translates into positive impact. In addition, it is not enough for them to know their supply chain in depth, they also seek to educate their consumers.

ITALY: HOW THE STORY IS CHANGING

The Belloni family is not only the Italian pioneer of beautiful creations made with Fairmined gold, but also as an important actor for their market as they became the first Fairmined authorized supplier in Italy, founding Altro Carato, providing other Italian and European brands with access to certified ethical gold and the possibility to share a story of origin and responsible gold mining.

“My sister and I were able to boost our family business by caring about sustainability and ethical gold. Fairmined is one of the most important elements of this change.
When I speak to brands in Italy I explain how the paperwork and costs are less important compared to the value and the impact though responsible jewelry”
