Alex Monroe
British brand Alex Monroe, well known for its designs inspired by Nature and its commitment to reduce impact on people and the environment, chose to use Fairmined gold to plate its new autumn collection “Fables”. From the 15th September 2021, every piece of plated jewelry of the brand will use Fairmined certified gold.
Alex Monroe’s pieces are designed and handcrafted in England by the founder and designer and his creative team. The simple and at the same time eccentric motifs constantly taken up by the designer derive from nature, in particular from that of the Suffolk countryside where Alex Monroe spent his childhood and par of his youth.
His creations are elegant and witty. The New Collection ‘Fables’, is inspired by the tales of animated animal characters with a message at the end of each story, the fables of Aesop.
Each piece keeps the harmony of nature, and even the innocence and delicacy of the organic forms of the forest, carefully crafted in gold.
And there the story, in addition to the message of good morals of Aesop’s fables, adds an example for the jewelry industry. Alex has decided to make this collection in certified Fairmined gold, which means ethical, responsible gold, with an origin to be proud of. Alex Monroe can trace the gold used to craft the ‘Fables’ collection back to its original source – the Iquira Mine in the Huila region of Colombia – thanks to its plater D&M Jewellery Finishers.
Furthermore, every piece of plated jewelry made from 15th September 2021 will use Fairmined gold, sourced from small-scale mining organizations who meet the UN standards for responsible social, economic and environmental practices.
Alex creates unique compositions that involve symbolism, the expertise to work with gold and the taste for gems, but also stands out for his commitment to ethics in the jewelry industry.
“We love what we do, but jewelry making has a notoriously complicated history when it comes to ethical practice and sustainability – particularly in regard to the mining of metals and gemstones. It can be hard to trace everything back to source, and the task can often seem daunting – however we are committed to continually reflecting on our practises and taking steps to do what we can to make positive change.” – says Alex Monroe.
Alex Monroe AW/21 Collection ‘Fables’ will be available from 15th September 2021 in-store and at AlexMonroe.com, LibertyLondon.com and JohnLewis.com.
